JINJA – A mob has lynched a man who had earlier killed three members of his family and injured another in a scuffle that was reported this morning at Kyeba village in Bugiri district.
The man identified as Shaban Mukhooli is reported to have killed his mother, Suzanne Chebet, 60; his wife – Jessica Nabbanja, 40; and son-Mutwalo Mukhooli, 6; as well as injuring his brother – Godfrey Mukhooli, who is now admitted to Bugiri General Hospital.
Moses Masanga – the village chairperson narrated that Mukhooli was known mental case and his family members had decided to resettle him in the village home – alongside the rest of his family. He explained that after killing his family, Mukhooli used the same machete to slaughter all the livestock in their neighbourhood before fleeing.
It is further alleged that residents had overpowered and arrested him – succeeding in locking him up, but angry people stormed the room in which he had been kept, lynching him before the arrival of the police.
Busoga East police spokesperson- Diana Nandawula said that the killer’s weapon had been retrieved from the scene of crime as police launched an investigation into the gruesome acts.
Nandawula also cautioned the public against managing persons with mental illness from confined areas without specialised medical personnel.
