KAMPALA – The Stanbic Uganda Cup holders – BUL FC were lucky on the day – advancing into the country’s second most prestigious competition round of 32 on a narrow 1-0 win over Sparks SC in a game played in Mukono on Monday.
The hosts – who feature in the Buganda Region competition – demonstrated their stubbornness in front of a sizeable home crowd – delaying Alex Isabirye’s troops’ breakthrough until after recess when Hillary Onek caused the only difference of the day.
And on the same day former StarTimes Uganda Premier League outfit-Ndejje University also booked their place in the round-of-32 following a 3-1 win over Kampala Region side-Nitinda United.
The visitors were 3-0 up by recess after Wasswa Nsale’s brace and an addition from Brian Obedi with the hosts’ consolation – coming after the break.
BUL and Ndejje joined five other teams – including Kitara FC (Big League), Admin FC from the Eastern Region, Pajule Lions FC (Northern Region), Junior Eagles FC (North Eastern Region) and Kitara Region side – Blue Stars FC – which teams had reached the round of 32 – earlier on Sunday.
Meanwhile – action in the same competition continues on Tuesday with more games on the card of round-of-64 – and notably former winners and finalist in last year’s competition – Vipers launch their bid against Bujumbura United away in Hoima.
