KAMPALA -National team, The Cranes’ Head Coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic on Tuesday named a temporary squad to embark on preparations for the forthcoming African Nations Championship – Chan.
Micho named a team of 35 players, which will undergo training for the biennial tournament slated for January 13 – February 14 in Algeria, next year.
The Chan tournament attracts national teams, consisting of players featuring in their respective domestic leagues.
The summoned players, according to Micho will enter residential camp at the Cranes Paradise Hotel, Kisasi on Wednesday, ahead of a pre tournament tour in Tunisia slated for early next year.
“We maintained the core of the team that played the qualifier matches against Tanzania. We have had the first round of the league running and this helps to put the players in good shape,” stated Micho at the Fufa Complex in Mengo, adding that there were considerations in the naming of the squad.
“We have looked at the aspect of inconsistency while analysing the level of competition. You can not remove all the players that qualified you (the team,) therefore we had maintain several players,” he emphasised.
The summoned team will train up December 24, breaking off for two days to enjoy Christmas with their families, before returning on Boxing day to start double physical activities until New Year’s Eve.
The team, which is set to face DR Congo on January 14, in their first group fixture, departs for Tunisia for a series of pre-Chan tournament build-up matches on New Year, after completing a two day tactical preparations, according to Micho.
