LOS ANGELES – Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo missed out on the list of winners as the 65th Grammy awards’ ceremony ended on Sunday – February 5 at the Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theatre.

It was the first time that the show returned to its usual February timing after the covid-19 pandemic had pushed the previous two events to March 2021 and April 2022.

Edrisah Musuuza aka Eddy Kenzo became the first Ugandan to be nominated at the Recording Academy Grammy Awards in November 2022 – for his collaboration with Matt B dubbed ‘Gimme Love’ selected in the Best Global Music Performance category.

But the category saw South African artists – take gold after beating competition of Nigeria’s Burna Boy; Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo; USA’s Matt B; Ghana’s Rocky Dawuni; and Pakistan’s Arooj Aftab to win in the Best Global Music Performance category at the Grammy Awards’ night.

The South African winning trio comprises Nomcebo Zikode, who is renowned as the singer in ‘Jerusalema,’ record producer and singer, Zakes Bantwini as well as celebrated flutist, producer and composer Wouter Kellerman.
