MBARARA – The former Rukungiri district woman representative in Parliament and ex-Public Service Minister, Prisca Sezi Bessy Mbaguta is dead. She passed on on Tuesday in her sleep, family sources confirmed.
According to sources, the veteran politician who served in different government offices between 1980-2016, died in her sleep, at the age of 76.
Brian Mbaguta – one of the deceased’s sons, said her mother had no known chronical disease and hadn’t complained of anything by the time she retired to bed, leaving them in the sitting room – watching TV. He narrated that she went to sleep as usual but couldn’t wake-up, normally which prompted one his siblings to check on her – discovering that she had died in her bed.
“We had supper together after which, she left us in the sitting room watching TV and went to her bed,” said a grieving Brian Mbaguta.
Mbaguta represented the people of Rukungiri district in the 9th Parliament. She also participated in the 2018 Rukungiri district woman Member of Parliament by- election but lost on 993 votes.
She worked as the State Minister for Public Service – a position she held for 10 years – emerging as one of the best performers.
Mbaguta was one of the social people in the community and a down to earth person. She had a long and extensive public service career, starting in 1975, when she worked as the senior personnel officer, in the Public Service Commission, a position she held until 1980. Between 1980 and 1983, she served as the principal personnel officer in the Public Service Commission, and as the chief personnel officer in the Ministry of Public Services, from 1983 until 1990. She was appointed to that position in June 2006. In the cabinet reshuffle of February 2009, and that of May 2011, she retained her portfolio.
