KAMPALA – Uganda’s most successful football team – SC Villa will have to serve all the sanctions, which the Fufa Disciplinary Panel imposed onto them, earlier this month as consequences of acts of hooliganism.
The Fufa Appeals Committee upheld the sanctions of the CDP after trashing Villa’s appeal.
Earlier this month, the Fufa – Federation of Uganda Football Associations’ Competitions Disciplinary Panel-CDP sanctioned Villa after investigations confirmed that the club fans pelted foreign materials including urine towards match officials during their Uganda Premier League – UPL match against Wakiso Giants at Wankulukuku Stadium contrary to the Fufa Competitions rules.
Villa lost two points and two goals in a boardroom decision as compensation for their fans’ unsporting behaviours.
The panel also ordered Villa to host their next five UPL fixtures in a closed stadium, at a neutral territory outside the jurisdiction of the Fufa Regional Football Associations of Kampala, Buganda, and Eastern. The stadium must be licenced for the 2022/3 StarTimes UPL matches.
Additionally, the panel handed Villa a suspended deduction of two points and two goals for a period of 30 days within which, the club would avail the list of errant fans and all relevant details that orchestrated the hooliganism for onward transmission to the match integrity committee for necessary action.
Villa had appealed the sanctions but lost out in what the responsible committee ruled that the club must serve its punishment as a way of deterring any such conducts in the future.
In a similar fashion, the CDP suspended army side Gaddafi FC’s Head Coach Wasswa Bossa for two next competitive matches for confronting match officials. It is said Bossa, known for his unguided outburst, approached the match officials in a threatening manner – throwing verbal vulgar insults towards the same in reaction to a penalty was awarded to Wakiso Giants during their UPL game played at Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium last month.
Bossa was also fined Ugx1m upon completion of the suspension. The committee also suspended Gadaffi player Godfrey Lwesibawa for two competition matches, effective immediately – accusing him of confronting the match officials at the same venue.
Meanwhile, as Fufa continued to sting errant individuals, who have made it a habit of soiling the game, Arua Hill’s quartet of Coaches Charles Mbabazi Livingstone and Yusuf Ssenyonjo as well as players Richard Anyama and Bright Joseph were unlucky for their unsporting conduct on the day.
Fufa’s CDP arm found the group guilty of violating Article 31 of the federations Competitions rules in regard to misconduct in their UPL away game against Gaddafi played at Jinja’s Kakindu stadium.
Whereas Mbabazi and Ssenyonjo were suspended for one competition match, each will be required to pay a fine of Ugx0.5m into the federation account. The affected players were each banned from taking part in two competition games.
