KAMPALA – The police at Katwe are investigating the murder of Uganda People’s Defence Forces-UPDF officer, Moses Mubangizi as well as a private security guard, Huron Otim on Saturday.
Luke Owoyesigyire – the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson said in a brief statement that Mubangizi and Otim had picked up a quarrel with army officers in Katwe a bar on Saturday night. He narrated how Mubangizi had disarmed Otim – handing the same weapon to another private security guard in the vicinity – Simon Wana.
But the act, according to Owoyesigyire – annoyed Otim further – who attacked and secured his gun from Wana – returned to the bar and shooting Mubangizi dead. Revellers joined the fracas in retaliation –descending on Otim – killing him in an act of mob justice.
“The police responded to the scene and recovered one gun and one bullet, but the magazine was missing,” said Owoyesigyire a statement.
He added that police had taken the bodies to the city mortuary for post-mortem while Wana was arrested and detained at Katwe police division for further investigations.
