Legislator- Youth Leader Fight over Chicken in Fort Portal
FORT PORTAL – A misunderstanding between the Fort Portal Woman MP, Irene Linda Mugisa and the city Youth Council chairperson in charge the Northern division, Patrick Amanyire Kasoro erupted on Friday over a donation of chicks from the office of the State Minister for Luwero and Rwenzori Region.
Amanyire accused the legislator of hijacking and diverting a project, whose background is traced to 2021 to benefit over 250 youth. He said the MP had received the first batch of 5,000 chicks out of the 15,000 on his behalf but kept it as top secret – distributing the same to recipients of her choice – including her political assistant, agents, family and friends instead of giving them to the intended beneficiaries.
But the accused legislator termed Amanyire as a ‘confused person’- insisting that the same youth leader had authorised her to execute the mission of securing the said chicks and had updated him at every stage – including the distribution process and beneficiaries.
Obongi Ferry to Resume Operations
GULU – The grounded Obongi ferry will resume operations next month after rehabilitation of on the landing site nears completion.
The Uganda National Roads Authority – UNRA suspended operations of the vessel that connects Obongi to Adjumani in the West Nile sub-region in July 2020 after the increase in water levels of the Albert Nile submerged the docking site.
UNRA officials said upgrading the ferry docking site at Obongi Town council with hard-core was complete – embarking on works of the leading road to the Obongi and at Sinyanya ferry docking site in Adjumani district.
Allan Ssempebwa – UNRA Communications Manager said on Friday that the ferry would be operating before the end of February.
Kamwenge Teenager Drowns in Fish Pond
FORT PORTAL – Police in Kamwenge district on Friday retrieved the body of Daniel Owamani, 14 from a fish pond in Kyabyoma village, Kamwenge Town.
Owamani was a Primary six pupil at St Paul Primary school in Kamwenge.
The acting Kamwenge District Police Commander – Emmanuel Kanusu said the deceased met his death after his parents had sent him, together with his brother fetch firewood from the nearby forest.
The deceased, police narrated, opted to first swim in the pond near the forest but drowned in the process.
Kanusu advised parents to always watch over their children to avoid such incidents but also warned dam and pond owners to fence off such facilities.
Karamojong Warriors Kill UPDF Soldier, Steal Gun
MOROTO – Security forces in Karamoja sub-region are hunting for the suspected cattle rustlers who attacked UPDF soldiers in the bush, shooting one dead before taking off with his gun in Nabilatuk district.
The suspected warriors from Matheniko attacked the soldiers at Lobunariye village, Kosike sub-county in Nabilatuk district where they were on duty – tracking stolen cows.
Brig Gen Joseph Balikudembe – the UPDF 3rd division commander confirmed the incident – saying the forces who were on their way to track stolen cows had been ambushed – killing one and taking his gun.
Balikudembe said the joint security forces had embarked on a serious hunt for the criminals – netting at least three.
According to Balikudembe, the deceased identified as pte Asaph Bainomugisha succumbed to gunshot wounds since he had been severely injured.
Two South Sudanese Refugees Held Over Murder
HOIMA –Two South Sudanese Refugees were on Friday arrested and detained at Kiryandongo Central Police Station over the murder of a 26-year-old man.
The suspects have been identified as Gatkouth Anyanyaka, 22 and another one only identified as Gatleak, 21- both refugees attached to Panyadoli refugee settlement area in Kiryandongo.
The suspects are believed to have murdered a fellow South Sudanese refugee identified as Sebi Gatkek, 26 – who was also attached to the same refugee settlement camp. The incident happened on January 8, 2023 at Kicwabugingo cell in Kicwabugingo sub-county.
The arrested refugees reportedly stabbed their victim severally. He was stabbed in the stomach, neck and head after they picked a misunderstanding over yet unknown reasons.
