JINJA –The Police in Busoga are investigating circumstances under, which a 22-year-old man was burnt to death.

Unknown people reportedly attacked Charles Karobe – a resident of Buwutu village, in Ikumbya sub-county, in Luuka district on New Year.

It is alleged that the arsonists first pelted his grass-thatched house with stones for close to 30 minutes before torching it down.

Joan Kasiri, a resident narrated that at about 11:00 am, she heard three men in the compound planning to torch a house. Kasiri however, notes that the suspected arsonists returned at about 11:30 pm, locked up Karobe in his house, and torched it.

The Busoga North Police Spokesperson, Michael Kasadha confirmed the incident, saying that detectives had launched an investigation.

Kasadha noted that the police was working with local authorities in the area, after receiving reports that the suspects are believed to be hiding within the community.

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old man in Pallisa district has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his 9-year-old child to death.

Samuel Semewo, the acting Bukeddi North Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying the suspect, Abas Matala –a resident of Lweta cell, Pallisa Town Council had on Sunday beaten his son Abas Daridae for allegedly stealing a neighbour’s mobile phone.

Semewo narrated that Matala had assaulted Daridae using an electric cable –tying him with a rope throughout the night until Monday morning. He added that the victim became unconscious and was rushed to a clinic where he was pronounced dead.

Sewewo revealed that Matala had handed himself to Police on learning that the boy had died.

Aisha Namusosa – the sister to the deceased kid, recounted how efforts to plead with their father to stop assaulting the boy had yielded nothing but pain.
