KAMPALA – President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday announced a mini reshuffles in the army leadership, recalling Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba from South Sudan and appointing him as the UODF’s acting Chief of Staff, Land Force.
Gen Bakasumba, who has been the chief of joint staff for the Uganda Police, replaces Brig Bob Ogiki, who has been promoted to Maj Gen and appointed 2nd Division Commandant based at Makenke barracks in Mbarara district.
Bakasumba has been a Defence attaché in South Sudan. Before being moved to South Sudan, a year ago, Bakasumba was the first holder of the position of Chief of Joint Staff –CJS in the Uganda Police Force –UPF. This position is currently being held by Maj Gen Abel Kandiho.
The new developments saw Maj Gen Ogiki replace Maj Gen Francis Tukirwa, who has been named deputy commander of the UPDF Land Forces. Maj Gen Tukirwa deputises Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, who took over from Gen Kainerugaba Muhoozi, recently.
The position of deputy Commander of Land Forces has been vacant since November 3, 2022 when Museveni appointed Lt Gen Sam Okiding as commander of the UPDF contingent in Somalia.
“The ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and UPDF fraternity congratulate the General officers upon their well-deserved promotion and appointments,” Col Akiiki said.
The President, who doubles as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, announced the changes on Wednesday, according to Defence and Army Deputy Spokesperson – Deo Akiiki.
“The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and the UPDF fraternity congratulate the General Officers upon their well-deserved promotion and appointments,” noted Akiiki in a press release.
