IDUDI– Police in Busoga East on Saturday arrested Bakar Samanya over the alleged killing of his three-year old step daughter, Mirabu Namwase, following a family dispute.
Samanya, 42, is being held at Bugweri Central Police Station -CPS – Idudi, pending further investigations.
It is reported that Samanya committed the offence after his wife – Annette Mutiibwa, returned home in the wee hours of Friday and could hardly account for her absence for rest of the night.
Sources revealed that enraged Samanya transferred his anger towards a helpless three-year-old Namwase who had sought refugee under the bed; strangling her to death before fleeing from the house.
According sources, residents were swift in mounting a search that led to his arrest and handing him over to the Police authorities, in an operation that rescued him from committing suicide in the neighbour’s garden .
Mutiibwa told angry mourners that they had a fierce fight on Friday evening, prompting her to spend the better part of the night at a neighbour’s house. Mutiibwa added that Samanya locked himself inside the house, fleeing to unknown place.
She recounted that upon her return in the morning, she found Namwase’s body on the floor.
The Busoga East Police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula confirmed the ugly incident, adding that the suspect faces two counts of murder and assault.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Bugweri CPS, awaiting postmortem.
