It is alleged that Kusemererwa picked a quarrel with the deceased after demanding for Ugx1,000 – which money he had won in a match of cards.

It alleged that the deceased when declined to give him the money, Kusemererwa picked a stick – hitting him on the head and leaving him unconscious.

Gorret Nyangoma, a neighbour to the deceased said on Tuesday that Ategeka died as he was being rushed to Kagadi General Hospital for treatment.

Tom Twinomujuni, another resident noted that it was unfortunate that Ategeka had lost his life in reckless manner – calling on the authorities to regulate the high rate of gambling in the area.

He wants police to expedite investigations to ensure that the culprit is apprehended and charged in courts of law.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, said that the suspect is still at large. According to Hakiza, police picked up the deceased’s body which was later conveyed to Kagadi general hospital mortuary for post mortem.
Hakiza has appealed to members of the public to cooperate with the police by providing vital information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect.
