MBALE – The Police in Ngora are holding a man suspected of killing his wife, and hiding her body in water for weeks. Moses Mwanga Kityo, the East Kyoga RPC identifies the suspect as Simon Ekamu, a resident of Aliin Village in Opot Town Council, Kobuin sub-county in Ngora district.
Ekamu is locked up at Ngora CPS for the murder of his wife, Grace Among, 40, whose body was recovered from Ogawa landing site.
Francis Masereka, the OC – Ngora Police Central Station, said that investigations into the matter were still on-going.
Ronald Francis Opolot, the LC I Chairperson of Aliin Village said he learn’t from the locals on Sunday that there was a terrible stench filling the air in the bushes near the landing site. Opolot narrated he landed onto a decomposing body lying on the chest on visiting the area.
“I dared to turn the body in order to identify the gender of the person and I discovered it was a woman who was later identified to be the wife of Ekamu, who was suspiciously missing from the village for about one week,” narrated Opolot.
He added that when he returned to the scene where he had found the body the following day, it was missing. He said on mounting a search for the body was found in the bushes at Ogawa landing site.
Opolot reported the matter to Kobuin police station, which launched a manhunt for Ekamu, who handed himself into the hands of the law the next day.
Opolot expressed disappointment with the incident, saying this is the second murder he is registering in his village within a space of three weeks. Enos Ogwang, the LC III Chairperson of Opot Town Council, revealed that angry residents had reacted harshly, torching the suspect’s property and homestead.
Mike Odongo LoAsio, the Ngora District LC V chairperson called for calm, discouraged members of the public from acts of mob-justice.
South Sudanese Student Killed in Kansanga Finally Identified
Meanwhile in Kampala, the homicide team at Kabalagala Police Station has finally identified a South Sudanese student, whom thugs killed at Wonderworld Amusement in Kansanga during a music concert.
Earlier information had indicated that the deceased was a student of Kampala International University – KIU in Kansanga but institution’s administration dismissed the claims after cross-checking their records as well as engaging the South Sudan students’ association.
KIU realised slain South Sudanese wasn’t anywhere in the records of their current or past students, as police embarked on the duty of tracing his relatives.
Kabalagala Police was somehow stuck but, the deceased relatives surfaced after searching for his whereabouts, identifying him as Deng Aguek Mayen, 27.
The deceased’s uncle Mangeny has told Police that Aguek was a student at Juba University, and nowhere else in Uganda.
“He was a student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in human medicine and surgery at Juba University. He was in his 4th year,” said Mangeny.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala metropolitan deputy Police spokesperson, said Aguek was attacked, hit, and robbed by thugs during a music concert at Wonderworld Amusement Park. He said the victim was left for dead but other revellers had rushed him to Kampala International Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead.

“We have been told that he had come for holidays at an uncle’s place in Bunga. At about 2:00 am, he was attacked during a festival by thugs that robbed him of his belongings,” said Owoyesigyire.
Kabalagala Police alongside homicide detectives have since rounded up 13 suspects in Kansanga, recovering some valuables suspected to have been robbed from Aguek. Police said the suspects would be charged of aggravated robbery and murder.
Police urged Kampala dwellers as well as other members of the public to be more vigilant during this festive season since criminals are always very lethal.
Clare Nabakka, the deputy Police spokesperson, said moving items like expensive phones; huge sums of money could easily attract criminals.
