Over 30 South Sudanese Injured in Accident in Amuru

GULU – A total of 36 South Sudan nationals are nursing severe injuries sustained from an accident that occurred in Amuru on Monday.

The victims sustained critical injuries after a lorry Reg. No. UAV 919 H, in which they were travelling, overturned in Atiak Town Council along the Adjumani-Attiak road. They were travelling from Nyumanzi Refugee Settlement in Adjumani district where they had attended New Year prayers to Nimule in South Sudan.

Thirteen of the victims were rushed to St Mary`s Hospital Lacor in Gulu for treatment while 23 were admitted at Atiak Health Centre IV in Amuru district.

Kenneth Okot – the Atiak Town Council chairperson said on Tuesday that the 13 survivors who were rushed to St Mary`s Hospital Lacor needed specialised medical attention, while the 23 at Attiak Health Centre IV were in stable condition as the driver of the vehicle was reported to be on the run.

Angello Ochieng – the In-charge of Atiak Health Centre IV said that three of those receiving treatment at the facility were deteriorating and arrangements were underway to transfer them to St Mary`s Hospital, Lacor.
