JINJA – The police in Busoga North are holding a woman, whose identity has been withheld – over the death of Cpl George Isabirye – the officer in charge of Nakabugu police station, in Bulongo sub-county, Luuka district.
The suspect is currently detained at Luuka Central Police Station, awaiting further interrogation to ascertain the circumstances, which led to Isabirye’s death.
It is reported that Isabirye invited the suspect at his home in Nakabugu trading centre, in Bulongo sub-county, Luuka district during the night of February 1, 2023.
It’s alleged that while the two were together – the police officer became unwell – forcing the visitor to alerted the neighbours after his situation deteriorated. Consequently Isabirye was ferried to Kiyunga health centre IV for medical attention the following morning-breathing his last at the same health facility on Friday.
Police transferred the body of the deceased to Mulago National Referral Hospital Mortuary for a post mortem to examine the exact cause of death – before handing him over to the family for a decent burial.
The Bulongo sub-county LCIII chairperson, Hussein Taitika noted that Isabirye had been a hardworking policeman – challenging the authorities to speed up the process of determining circumstances that led to his untimely death – saying it was the only available option to pay him back before the official send-off.
The Busoga North Police Spokesperson, Michael Kasadha pledged to release details regarding the Isabirye’s death after finalising with the post-mortem protocols.
