Isabirye was the out-going officer in charge – OC of the recently phased-out Luzinga police post, in Kamuli district, and at the time of the robbery was redundant – having been recalled at CPS, pending redeployment.

It is reported that unknown assailants ambushed Goswami at his home located in Luzinga zone 1, in Wankole Sub County, in Kamuli district – robbing from him of said amount, which had been wrapped in a bag.

The attackers shot Goswami in the left shoulder and he is still receiving treatment at a private medical facility in Jinja.

Five employees of GM Weigh bridge including; Moses Kiirya, Alex Waibale, Malicana Kiirya, Adam Baliruno and Painedo Ojole, were earlier arrested as suspected of the same robbery.

Sources at Kamuli CPS revealed that all detained suspects have since denied any involvement in the said robbery as some claimed to have been responsible citizens, who had alerted the police moments after the attack.

The Busoga North Police spokesperson, Michael Kasadha confirmed that many of the suspects had implicated Isabirye – leading to his arrest.
