JINJA – Police in Busoga North on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of Samuel Mulondo, an army deserter from the Special Forces Command – SFC. Mulondo was suspected of plotting to attack the Luuka Central Police Station establishment.
Mulondo, RA 217246 was arrested from outside Luuka central police station, donning an Islamic garb. SFC is the UPDF’s elite army responsible for guarding President Yoweri Museveni as well as a selected few individuals in the country.
Mulondo’s arrested followed discrete enquiries by the area police leadership, who became suspicious of Mulondo alias Abdul Mulondo, who had since the past one week been frequenting the area, without sound reason, clad in Islamic attires.
One of the officers said on condition of anonymity that the police had traced Mulondo for the past three days; discovering that he wore casual clothing in the night, slept in bars while camouflaging as a Muslim cleric during daytime.
The source added that Mulondo was also seen ‘inspecting’ Luuka central police station on the nights of December 19 and 20, prompting his arrest.
At the time of his arrest, according to the source, Mulondo wore three trousers, two vests, one shirt, a kanzu, cap, had undisclosed documents linking him to the SFC as well as an empty beer bottle, which had been hidden in the pocket of his jacket.
Samuel Musiho, the Luuka RDC, said Mulondo was masquerading as a Muslim cleric, aiding vulnerable people to access justice. Musiho noted that Mulondo had joined SFC in 2008, before disserting in 2018 with a gun. He insisted that he has been on the force’s wanted list for close to five years now.
Mulondo was transferred to Magamaga Military Barracks for further interrogation. Before his transfer, he reportedly said that he deserted on personal grounds and never harboured intentions of creating harm to both security installations and the entire community at large.
