Speeding Subaru Driver Kills Toddlers in Jinja

JINJA – Police in Kiira region on Saturday confirmed the death of two toddlers; Aidah Timugibwa  aged three months and Patience Namusobya,18 months, whom the driver of a speeding Subaru Reg. No. UBE 853V knocked dead. The incident happened in Busiibe trading centre, in Buwenge sub-county, Jinja district, along the Kamuli highway.

The deceased were transferred to Buwenge health centre IV mortuary, awaiting post-mortem.

According to an eye-witness – the toddlers were riding with their parents, Richard Wakayinjja and Susan Naisanga on a bicycle heading to Buwenge town council, when the speeding Subaru driver lost control – ramming into them.

Wakayinja and Naisanga sustained serious injuries on their heads and were rushed to Jinja regional referral hospital for further management.

The unidentified driver has since fled into hiding – leaving behind the vehicle, which police toured to their station yard at Kagoma.

Rosette Tikabula – a resident in the area said that the toddlers hit their heads on the road – bleeding to death as well -wishers managed to rush their parents to Jinja hospital.

The officer in charge of traffic – Kiira North police division, Richard Wabwire revealed that the casualties were showing a successful recovery.

Wabwire said efforts were underway to hunt down the driver of the Subaru vehicle- challenging road users to observe traffic regulations including speed limits, which he noted would assist in the reduction of occurrences of accidents.
