RABAT – Vipers SC suffered a humiliating 0-5 loss at the hands of hosts – Raja Casablanca in a Caf Champions’ League group C opener played in an empty Complexe Mohammed V stadium on Friday night.
Alfred Mudekereza – the Venoms’ custodian claimed the villain’s trophy early in the game when he advantaged the hosts with two quick goals as the Kitende based side trailed 0-2 – ten minutes into play. Raja was up 3-0 by recess thanks to a goal each from Hamza Khabba, Jamal Harkass and Roger Aholou, in that order.
Goalie Mudekereza – an import for Vipers from Congo gifted Raja as early as the 5th minute when he miscalculated Khabba’s header – repeating almost a similar mistake after a free kick – which Harkass capitalised on to cause a 2-0 difference in the 10th minute.
After recess – Raja added two more goals – through Yousri Bouzok and Mohamed Zrida to make it 5-0 – condemning Vipers on the bottom of the group.
Vipers – who were reduced to mere shirts in the game – made a single attempt on target 34 into play off a Martin Kizza free kick – which goalie Anas Zniti – in the Raja sticks welcome like a baby.
Vipers – who are expected back into the country on Sunday will turn their attention onto their second group fixture against Guinea’s AC Horoya – which game is scheduled for February 18 at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
The Venoms reached the group stages after overcoming five time champions – TP Mazembe on penalties following a double goalless stalemate.
The Venoms who changed their technical bench – replacing departed Roberto Oliveira with Coach Beto Bianchi are trying to create an impact in the Caf lucrative group stages – the phase which only KCCA FC has ever reached in 2018.
